Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick

Movie Info:

In the film Top Gun: Maverick, we experience more than thirty years after the events in the original top gun, where we see a captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who is portrayed by Tom Cruise going back to the cockpit, this time he is a test pilot who has been avoiding promotions, stubbornly, because that would require him to leave the sky. His world is turned upside down when he is restricted to coaching a new generation of elite fighter pilots for a mission that has never been accomplished by a pilot. One of the recruits is Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), who is the son of the late goose who was the best friend of Maverick. Personal Insights

Top Gun: Maverick dares to disregard all previous cinematic conventions with its unique blend of nostalgia and emotional content. In his resplendent return as Maverick, Cruise explores aging, legacy, redemption and even a few other themes. His chemistry with Miles Teller is particularly electric, especially considering the history behind Rooster’s character. The dogfight scenes have always been fantastic and seeing them in real life makes them even better as the majority of the stunts were real and very little CGI was done in post-production. It is no surprise that Tom Cruise wants everything to feel authentic, most new action films can only ever dream of having that level of intensity thanks to the realism.

More heart-breaking is Iceman’s brief presence in the movie, as played by Val Kilmer, especially in the age in which Kilmer is trying to beat cancer of the throat. It makes one think of both the actor and the legendary enmity of the original.

Cultural Significance

Being one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022 after earning more than $1.5 billion Forbes aptly characterized Top Gun: Maverick as the New Hollywood. Considering the amount of real stunts performed, it is easy to understand why people are still interested in going to the movies. It serves as proof that Tom Cruise is still as relevant as ever, and his commitment to his work has always been on display.

The movie also dives into topics such as mentorship, legacy, and loss which can be understood by people of any generation. The passage of the torch by Maverick to the newer generation is in reality how many industries and leadership structures change.

Lady Gaga’s song “Hold My Hand” has been adopted as a motivational song, and that song works well with the film’s spirit.
